Ntiki Makariou

Diki Makariou was born in Athens, a city of letters and arts. Her approach to worldly matters followed this order: Regarding letters, she began with business administration at the American College, continued at the School of Tour Guides, and concluded at the Faculty of Philosophy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Although she was academically inclined, her mother insisted she learn a craft as well. Thus, finding—or perhaps completely losing—her professional orientation, she actively engaged in journalism for several years at ERT S.A. Steadfast on the "frontline" of news, she made occasional "attacks" through programs like "Kiriakatika," "Edo kai Simera," "Ygeia gia Olous," "Tris ston Aera," and "Selides tou Savvatou." After obtaining a Master's degree from City University in the capital of the Old Albion, she served as head of the international news department at NET during the challenging times of the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the undeclared war in Iraq, and September 11. She balanced—and continues to balance—her "combat" activities by working on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, as the head of publicity at the charitable Hellenic Heart Foundation. When the "Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, with the consent of the Rector, deemed her worthy to be tested and approved in the rank of its doctors," she dared to teach the art of journalism for a few years as a scientific associate at this University.
