Christina Rossetti

Christina Georgina Rossetti (December 5, 1830 - December 29, 1894) was an English poet of the Victorian era. Her father was the Italian poet Gabriele Rossetti, who sought political asylum in England, and her mother was Frances Polidori, sister of Lord Byron's friend and physician John William Polidori. Her brother was the renowned painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a leading figure in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, who often used his sister as a model in his paintings. Her first verses were published in 1847. In 1862, her most famous work, "Goblin Market and Other Poems," was published, establishing her among the Victorian poets. She went on to publish poetry collections, a children's book, the novel "Commonplace," and many religious works. The dominant themes in Rossetti's works are melancholic love, death, early resignation, and the renunciation of earthly desires.
