
Iraklis Papaioannou
Hercules Papaioannou (Thessaloniki, 1962) studied physics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), completed a master's degree in photography at New York University, and earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Journalism and Mass Media at A.U.Th. Since 1999, he has been working at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography and has been its director since 2016. Between 1993 and 2006, he was an organizing member of the annual international photography festival Photosynkyria. He has published numerous texts and essays on photography and curated many photographic exhibitions and publications. He is a curator at MOMus/Thessaloniki Museum of Photography and has translated works by Susan Sontag, Ian Jeffrey, and Villem Flusser on photography into Greek.
