Sotiris P. Varnavas

Sotiris P. Varnavas was born in 1948 in Milia, Famagusta, and attended the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia. He studied Natural Sciences and later Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He completed his doctoral dissertation at Imperial College, University of London, and served as a professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Patras. He is a member of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Committee. He is also a member of the organizing committee for the Poetry Symposium held at the University of Patras and a member of the organizing committee for the Poetry Seminars at the same university. He has published the poetry collections "Glimpses of Infinity" (2006), "Soundgrams" (2008), "Debt Record" (2013), and "Letters in Action" (2015) with Gavrielides Publishing. He is the co-editor of the "Anthology of Cypriot Poets" (2008), published by Taxideftis. He has studied 16th-century Cypriot love poetry through the work of the unknown poet of the collection "Rhymes of Love," participated in collective works, and published short commentaries on poetry publications. "Debt Record" and "Letters in Action" were shortlisted for the Cypriot State Poetry Awards in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
