
Stayroula Tsouprou
Stavroula G. Tsouprou (Athens, 1968), Ph.D. in Greek Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, is a modern Greek philologist, university professor, essayist, short story writer, and literary critic. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Athens, where she completed her dissertation with honors (2005). Initially, she worked in the private sector as a philologist of Greek, English, and French (she also holds diplomas in German, Italian, Spanish, and Russian). During the academic years 2006-2009, she taught "Modern Greek Literature," "Modern Greek Philology," and "Comparative Literature" at the University of the Peloponnese/Kalamata. Simultaneously, during the academic years 2007-2011, she conducted seminars for postgraduate students (focusing on Literary Theory) at the Department of Primary Education/Humanities Division of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Department of Language, Literature, and Culture of the Black Sea Countries at Democritus University of Thrace (Komotini), and the Department of Philology/Medieval and Modern Greek Studies Division at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During the academic years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, she taught "History of Modern Greek and European Literature" at the Drama School "Central Stage" in Athens. Since the academic year 2014-2015, she has been teaching "Modern Greek Philology: 19th & 20th Century" as a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the Hellenic Open University.
Her research work has systematically focused on Literary Theory and its application in the analysis of literary texts. She has participated in more than 45 international conferences and interdisciplinary seminars in Greece and abroad. She has published studies on a range of older and contemporary prose writers, mainly, but also poets, and regularly collaborates with daily and periodical, print and electronic media. She is a member of the Hellenic Society for General and Comparative Literature, the Papadiamantis Studies Society, and the National Society of Greek Writers.
She has published four essay collections: "Tasos Athanasiadis. Through the Eyes of Our Generation" (2007), "The 'Childish' Stories of Kosmas Politis" (2007), "Reading Trials" (2013), and "Translators and Intertexts" (Melani, 2016). Her dissertation was also published under the title "The Past Perfect and ...-(Inter)textuality as a Commentary on the Prose Work of Tasos Athanasiadis (and the 21 Embedded Poems of the Prose Writer)" by the Kostas and Eleni Ourani Foundation (2009). In spring 2013, her first short story collection "They Are Watching You" was released, followed by her second collection "The Thumbs of the Old Gods" in summer 2015. In February 2016, a selection of her short stories translated into English was published under the title "And Tomorrow is Now" (Rome editions). The latter two were included in the bilingual edition "And Tomorrow, Now Is" (Grigoris, 2017), followed by the collection titled "Variety" (Grigoris, 2018). Additionally, the edition "William Shakespeare, Hamlet. The Text of the 'Experimental Theatre' Performance by Marietta Rialdi, 1971-1972," Translation: Kosmas Politis, Editing - Notes - Appendices: Stavroula G. Tsouprou, published by Nefeli Editions in 2014, which was released in the Spring of 2014, was honored with the 2014 Theater Studies Writing Commendation by the Theater Critics of the Union of Greek Theater and Music Critics.
