Sofia Kolotourou

Sophia Kolotourou was born in Athens in 1973. She studied at the Medical School of the University of Crete and specialized in cytology at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, and Agios Savvas Hospital in Athens. She published the poetry collection "An-Epikaira Poiimata" (Dardanos-Typothito/series "Lalon Ydor", 2007), which was shortlisted for the "Diavazo" magazine's debut author award in 2008. Two poems from the collection were set to music, one by B. D. Foxmoor of "Active Member" (in the album "When the Small-minded Hiphop Bleed") and the other by Kostas Parissis (in the album "One For the Road" by Doros Demosthenous). Since 2008, she has maintained her personal blog, titled kofosi.blogspot.com, where she shares stories from her life related to the deafness she experiences. Her subsequent books include "Are You Deaf? Can't You Hear?" published by KPSM (2010, featuring texts from her blog and a 16-page comic insert illustrated by cartoonist Spyros Derveniotis) and "The Seven Faces of Deafness" (2013, a fantasy narrative published by Gutenberg). Her next poetry book, "The Third Generation" (Dardanos-Typothito/series "Lalon Ydor", 2015), was awarded the State Poetry Prize in 2016, jointly with Dimitris Angelis's book "A Deer Cries on My Bed." She collaborates with various literary magazines and newspapers. In April 2009, she co-created, with Kostas Koutsourelis, the online anthology of contemporary Greek poetry in traditional forms, titled "New Sounds in Ancient Water" (pampalaionero.wordpress.com).
