Sakis Serefas

Sakis Serefas was born in 1960 in Thessaloniki, where he currently resides. He studied Medieval and Modern Greek Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2000, he was accepted by Columbia University in New York as a Fulbright Foundation scholar, where he attended courses in the Department of Classical Studies related to Modern Greek Language, History, and Literature. To date, he has published 57 books, including poetry, prose, theater, studies on cities, places, and poets, translations, and anthologies. He has written 13 plays that have been staged at the National Theatre of Greece, the State Theatre of Northern Greece, the Athens-Epidaurus Festival, the Philippi-Kavala Festival, the Karolos Koun Art Theatre, the Experimental Stage of "Art," the Tristan Bates Theatre (London, in English translation), and elsewhere. He wrote the screenplay for the feature film "Roulette" (directed by Panos Karkanevatos, 2004), which was screened at the 46th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2005) and the Cannes Film Market (2005). He has been honored with the following awards: - "Karolos Koun" (2007), for his play "Mam" - Ministry of Culture Award (2007), for his play "Mission to Planet Earth" - State Award for Children's Knowledge Book (2008), for his book "A Dinosaur on My Balcony" - "Penelope Maximou" (2012), for his book "A Hole in the Water" - State Award for Children's Literary Book (2013), for his book "On the Road Again" His play "The Road Will Take You" is included in the list of "The 120 Best Contemporary European Plays" by the European Theatre Convention (ETC, 2010).
