Vasilis Kolovos

Vasilis Kolovos was born in 1946 in the mountainous village of Petrotos in the Domokos region of Phthiotis. From the age of twelve, he worked in a bookstore, barbershop, tailor shop, grocery store, café, various factories, and construction sites. He attended night school and graduated from the Drama School of the Athens Conservatoire in 1967. He began his acting career in 1972, performing in numerous theater companies with both classical and contemporary repertoires. He participated in ten films and fifteen television series. Alongside his professional activities, he was involved in addressing the trade union issues of actors. He has been continuously elected for twenty-eight years and is currently the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Entertainment and the Greek Actors' Guild. His engagement with the popular movement began when he first started working and continues to this day. His first novel, "Do You Remember, Father?", was published in 1994. His second novel, "The Yard of Broken Dreams", followed in 1998, "The Saints of Their Days" in 2001, "The Summer Passed Us By" in 2003, and "Don't Be Afraid, I'm Here" in 2007. "Do You Remember, Father?" was selected in 1998 to be part of the core curriculum for four years at the University of Sydney's Department of Modern Greek Studies, alongside Ritsos' "Epitaphios", Kampanellis' "The Courtyard of Miracles", and Ioannou's "The Sarcophagus". He visited Sydney four times, invited by the local Greek community. He spoke to children about his book and delivered lectures on "Yannis Ritsos, the Poet of Peace", "The Revolution of '21 and General Makriyannis", "Kostas Varnalis, the Guide of Our People", and "Fotis Aggoules, Our Folk Poet".
