Giorgos Varthalitis
Giorgos Varthalitis was born in 1972 in Corinth. He studied classical and modern philology at the universities of Athens and Heidelberg (doctoral dissertation). He is a poet, scholar, and translator of poetry from English, French, German, and Byzantine Greek (having translated works by Poe, Yeats, Hofmannsthal, Valéry, George, Ioannis Geometres, Christopher of Mytilene, Michael Marullus, among others). He curated the "Planodion" magazine's tribute to the poet Stefan George, later publishing an anthology of George's poems and prose. He has also published books with critical studies on K.P. Kavafis, Kostis Palamas, and Angelos Sikelianos (whom he has anthologized), and has contributed articles, book reviews, and studies to newspapers and magazines.
