Harry Mulisch

Harry Mulisch was born in 1927 to a father of Austro-Hungarian descent and a Jewish mother from Antwerp. He authored an impressive array of novels, short stories, essays, poems, plays, and philosophical works, and is considered one of the most important contemporary European writers. In 1992, he celebrated forty years of literary production by publishing the novel "The Discovery of Heaven" (translated by Ina Van Dyck-Balta, Kastaniotis Editions 2001), which is regarded as his masterpiece and has already been translated into many languages. His books "The Assault," which sold over 500,000 copies in the Netherlands (1982, translated by Ina Van Dyck-Balta, Kastaniotis Editions 1988), "The Elements" (1988, translated by Maria Angelidou, Kastaniotis Editions 1997), and "The Procedure" (1998, translated by Ina Van Dyck-Balta, Kastaniotis Editions 2000) also enjoyed great success. "Siegfried" was released in the Netherlands in 2001. In October 2010, he passed away at the age of 83 at his home in Amsterdam after a battle with cancer.
