THomas A. Ioannidis

Thomas Ant. Ioannidis was born in Mavrokampos, Kastoria. He holds degrees from the Department of Theology at the School of Theology of the University of Thessaloniki and from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens. He is a Doctor and Assistant Professor at the Department of Theology of the School of Theology of the University of Athens. Throughout his studies, he was a scholar of the State Scholarships Foundation (I.K.Y.), a Special Postgraduate Scholar in the Interpretative Sector of the Department of Theology at the University of Athens (1985-1987), and a scholar of the Academy of Athens after a competition among top students. He completed his postgraduate studies at the Universities of Regensburg and Munich in Germany over three years (1979-1982), where he attended courses on the Introduction and Interpretation of the Old and New Testaments and the History of the Ancient Church. He is proficient in German, English, French, Italian, and Bulgarian. He served his military duty in the Air Force as a reserve officer, where he received written "Commendation" and a "Certificate of Meritorious Service" for his conduct and services. In secondary education, he served: a) as a teacher (1987-1997), participating in numerous cultural-social activities and organizing conferences and seminars. During the school years 1989-1990 and 1993-1994, he presented model teachings attended by theology and other subject teachers, as well as School Counselors of theologians, b) as a Principal of Gymnasiums and Lyceums (1997-2005). Following an evaluation of educational staff, the service council ranked him third in the Directorate of Secondary Education of Eastern Thessaloniki. As the Principal of the 2nd Experimental Lyceum of Thessaloniki, he was awarded by the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace for the school's distinction in the 2003 Panhellenic Examinations. From 1997 to 2003, he collaborated with the Department of Worship, Christian Education, and Church Administration of the Department of Theology at the University of Thessaloniki in implementing the Teaching Practice Program in the subject of Religion. He presented a model teaching session as part of the Training Program of the 1st P.E.K. Thessaloniki, Oct.-Dec. 2000, "Evaluation as a Means of School Improvement," attended by teachers of various specialties. He is an active member of scientific societies, educational associations, and cultural clubs. The Holy Metropolis of Kastoria honored him (29-1-2007) with the Medal of Saint Glorious Great Martyr Minas the Wonderworker. He is married and has two children.
