THanasis CHatzopoulos

Thanasis Chatzopoulos was born in 1961 in Aliveri, Euboea, where he lived until 1978. The Greek countryside served as his natural environment, enriched with scholarly influences until his permanent move to the capital, where he studied medicine at the University of Athens and specialized in child psychiatry. He is a psychoanalyst and a member of the Societe de Psychanalyse Freudienne (Paris). Poetry and psychoanalysis are the two realms between which he has navigated throughout his life and career. In addition to poetry, he writes essays on literature that are published in literary magazines and newspapers. He has also translated French poets and English psychoanalysts. His poetry has been translated into eleven languages, including English, French, Italian, Spanish, Catalan, Swedish, Lebanese, Slovenian, Bulgarian, and others. In 2013, he was honored with the Petros Haris Foundation Award from the Academy of Athens for his body of work. In the same year, he received the French poetry award Max Jacob Etranger 2013 for his book "Cellule," translated by Alexandre Zotos and Louis Martinez, in a bilingual edition by Cheyne Editions. He lives and works in Athens as a psychoanalyst for children and adults.
