Ilias CH. Papadimitrakopoulos
Ilias Ch. Papadimitrakopoulos (1930). Ilias Papadimitrakopoulos was born in Pyrgos, Ilia, the son of a well-known lawyer in the city. He spent his childhood on the family estate on the outskirts of Pyrgos and completed the practical section of the local Gymnasium. The death of his father during the German occupation (1943) also led to the financial ruin of his family. He studied at the Military Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki (1949-1955), specializing in pathology and further training in hygiene. He resigned in 1958 but was obliged to return, and from 1959 to 1968, he lived in Kavala. There, he collaborated with the magazine "Argo" and co-founded the magazine "Skapti Yli" and founded the city's film club. He remained in the military until 1983, when he retired at his own request with the rank of Senior General Medical Officer, having contributed to the promotion of military preventive medicine programs and serving for six years as editor-in-chief of the "Medical Review of the Armed Forces" magazine. He made his literary debut in 1962 with the publication of the short story "Oi Frakasánes" in the magazine "Argo." He also collaborated with magazines such as "Tachydromos" (Kavala), "Dialogos" (Thessaloniki), "Dialogos" (Lechaina), "Anti," "Chartis," "Chroniko," and "To Tetarto." Ilias Papadimitrakopoulos belongs to the post-war generation of Greek prose writers. His work is characterized by a nostalgic sentiment for his youth and the bitter realization of the impossibility of its return and the harshness of contemporary reality, expressed through a simple, strongly suggestive, indirectly critical, and discreetly ironic writing style.
