
Nedim Gürsel
Nedim Gürsel was born in 1951 in Turkey. His first short stories began appearing in Turkish literary magazines as early as 1969. His debut novel, "A Long Summer in Istanbul" (1974), won the highest literary award in his homeland in 1976. In addition to novels and short stories, he has also published critical essays—totaling twenty-six books. He has been living permanently in Paris since 1971, where he went to continue his studies. He teaches Turkish literature at the Sorbonne University and works as a researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (C.N.R.S.) in France. His books have been translated into ten foreign languages. He has been honored with the Abdi İpekçi Peace Prize (1986) and the Freedom Award of the French Pen Club (1987). In 1990, he was awarded the International Prize for Best Short Story by Radio France Internationale.
