Frans De Waal

Frans De Waal was born in the Netherlands in 1948 and has been living in the United States since 1981. He received his Ph.D. in zoology and ethology from Utrecht University and currently teaches psychology at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory University in Atlanta. As a biologist and ethologist, he has gained worldwide recognition for his studies on the social intelligence of higher mammals such as chimpanzees, bonobos, capuchins, and macaques.
