László Krasznahorkai

László Krasznahorkai was born in 1954 in the city of Gyula, Hungary. He studied law and literature at the Universities of Szeged and Budapest. He is considered one of the most important contemporary Hungarian authors, known for his commitment to ambitious and demanding literature. He has received numerous awards (including the Kossuth Prize, Hungary’s highest distinction, and the German Bestenliste Prize). In 2015, he won the Man Booker International Prize for his body of work. His works have been translated into English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Czech, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Japanese, and now Greek. Two of László Krasznahorkai’s books ("Satantango" and "The Melancholy of Resistance") have been adapted into films by his friend, director Béla Tarr, for whom he has also written original screenplays. In 2025, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
