Ageliki Kottaridi

Angeliki Kottaridi is a graduate of the Department of Archaeology and Art History of the Faculty of Philosophy at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with postgraduate studies in classical, prehistoric, and medieval archaeology, art history, ancient and medieval philology, ethnology, and theater studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Cologne. For several years, she served as an assistant to Manolis Andronikos during the Vergina excavation and, since 1991, has been an archaeologist for the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. She is responsible for the archaeological site and the Museum of Aigai (Vergina), where she designed and organized the exhibition of treasures at the Museum of the Royal Tombs, among other projects. She is in charge of all renovation, enhancement, and conservation works at the Royal Necropolis and the Palace of Aigai, the first capital of the Macedonians. As the scientific supervisor and author of texts for the major electronic publication of the Ministry of Culture on Aigai, as well as the online presentation of the site and museum, she has published, in addition to her doctoral dissertation on witches in ancient Greek mythology, a wide range of studies, articles, catalogs, etc., on topics related to research and excavation at Aigai and the land of Macedonia, Macedonian burial customs, ancient painting, magic, mythology, religion, and women in antiquity, as well as the challenges of socializing archaeology and the importance of approaching the philosophy of the ancient world today. Alongside her extensive excavation and research activities, in collaboration with painter Ch. Bokoros, she undertook the reconstruction of the masterful gold and ivory beds from the tomb of Philip II and organized a series of temporary exhibitions for the Ministry of Culture in Greece and abroad (Athens, Hanover, Rome, Delhi, New York): "Macedonians, the Greeks of the North," "From Medea to Sappho," among others. She has participated in numerous scientific conferences and symposia, delivered lectures in Greece and abroad, and given interviews and presentations in print and electronic media. She has also collaborated as a scientific advisor on international television productions and educational documentaries. Angeliki Kottaridi is a member of the Council of Museums and Museum Policy of the Ministry of Culture and the General Secretary of the Association of Greek Archaeologists.
