Jackie Kay

Jackie Kay was born in Edinburgh in 1961 to a Scottish mother and a Nigerian father. She was adopted by a white couple and grew up in Glasgow. She studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the University of Stirling. Her adoption experience was the thematic core of her first poetry collection. Her debut novel, "Trumpet," won the Guardian Fiction Prize when it was published in 1998. Jackie Kay has also written three poetry collections and two short story collections. She lives and works in Manchester.
