Dimitris Kouretas
Dimitris Kouretas was born in the Refugee District of Patras in 1962. He studied pharmacy in Patras and later earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Chemistry Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Between 1990 and 1992, he worked as a researcher at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is currently a professor of animal physiology at the Department of Biochemistry-Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly and resides in Larissa. His research focuses on studying the mechanisms of interactions between nutritional elements and the body at the molecular level, particularly in cases of exercise. He served as an expert for the EU on the technological platform 'Food for Life' during the periods 2007-2013 and 2014-2020. His work in food innovation has been awarded in Greece and the EU. He is an Associate Editor of the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology. He is also the scientific director of the high-tech company Eatwalk, which specializes in biofunctional foods. From 2013 to 2014, he was the Vice-Rector at the University of Thessaly, and since 2013, he has been the President of the Innovation Council of the Region of Thessaly.
