Andreas K. Papanikolaou

Professor Andreas K. Papanicolaou was born in 1950 in Moulki, Corinthia. In 1972, he received his degree in psychology from Xavier University and in 1978 earned a PhD in psychology from Southern Illinois University. He then taught for two years at Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, and since 1980 has been working at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, where he directs the Center for Clinical Neurosciences. In 2002, he founded the Summer Institute of Advanced Studies of the International Neuropsychological Society, which he also directs. He has received numerous distinctions and has been funded by the NIH, NSF, and other public and private organizations in the United States for his research on epilepsy, developmental disorders, brain plasticity, and the imaging of the brain mechanisms underlying cognitive functions, which he conducts in the two magnetoencephalography laboratories at the Houston Medical Center. He has published numerous research papers and several books on topics ranging from technical and clinical to theoretical.
