CHristos Athanasopoulos

Christos G. Athanasopoulos (b. 1938, Athens) is an architect who graduated from the National Technical University of Athens (1961). He pursued postgraduate studies at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts and the Institut d'Urbanisme of the Universite de Paris (1961-62). He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1975). He served as a curator at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens (1962-67). He was a Professor of Building Construction and Architectural Design and Director of the Building Construction Laboratory at the Polytechnic School of the Democritus University of Thrace (1977-2005). He held positions as Rector, Vice-Rector, and Deputy Rector of the Democritus University of Thrace (1979-1982) and was President of the Department of Architectural Engineering at the same university (1999-2005). Additionally, he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Public Real Estate Corporation and the National Theatre, as well as a member or chairman of committees and councils of various public and academic organizations and institutions. He has been awarded in architectural competitions with two first prizes, three third prizes, five commendations, and one purchase. He is the author of the following books: "Problems in the Developments of Contemporary Theater" (1976), "Contemporary Theater: Evolution and Design," New York 1983, 2006, "Building Construction: Composition and Technology," 1977, 2003, "Building Protection: Thermal Insulation-Sound Insulation-Sound Protection," 1991, 2004, "Reinforced Concrete: Standardization and Industrialization of Production and Protection," 2004. Many of his architectural works, studies, and articles have been published in Greek and international journals, conference proceedings, and newspapers.
