Giorgos V. Monemvasitis
George V. Monemvasitis was born in 1947 in Gytheio, where he was also raised. He studied at the School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. Since his graduation in 1970, he has been involved in the preparation of structural studies for building and transportation projects, collaborating with distinguished architects. Since 1978, he has been continuously engaged as a critic and commentator on musical events, a program writer for musical events, and a producer-presenter of music radio broadcasts, primarily for the Third Program of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (1983-2000). Since 1989, he has been teaching Music History, the Art and Technique of Radio, and Music Communication at journalism schools. He served as the appointed music critic for the newspaper Eleftherotypia (1984-1996) and resumed his role in early 2013 with the newspaper's reissue. He has been a member of the advisory board of the Athens Festival (1987-1992), deputy chairman of the Greek Ministry of Culture's House of Letters and Arts (1993-1998), a member of the State Orchestra of Athens (1993-2006), director of the Second Program of the Hellenic Radio (1996-1999), and a consultant for the Cultural Olympiad (2001-2004). He has been a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) since 1970, a member of the Union of Greek Theater and Music Critics since 1992 (board member since 2003), a member of the Theater Museum since 1996 (board member since 2013), a member of the DIAZOMA association, and currently serves as the treasurer of the board of the Camerata, Friends of Music Orchestra. He is a regular collaborator with the Athens Concert Hall and the Orchestra of Colors.
