Theophilos Fragkopoulos (1923 - 1998). Theophilos Fragkopoulos was born in Athens, with roots from Zakynthos. His father was a senior military officer, and his mother hailed from the Theotokis and Polylas families. He studied at the Law School of the University of Athens and pursued tourism and economic sciences at Surrey University in England. A polyglot, he traveled extensively to countries such as Lebanon and Tunisia, where he worked as a bank employee and as a director of a shipping company. During the German occupation and the civil war, he enlisted in the National Resistance, initially as a member of the United Youth of the Sacred Brigade and later in the organizations E.S.A.S., R.A.N., and EDES. From 1948 to 1950, he served as a reserve officer in the Armored Corps and also fought against the April junta of 1967. In 1950, he was appointed head of the foreign advertising department at the Greek Center for Tourist Studies. He also served as director of the Greek National Tourism Organization (1959-1964) and delivered lectures on modern Greek literature as a visiting professor at the universities of Bochum in West Germany and Boston in the United States. In the literary field, he engaged in novel writing, poetry, and theater, and also wrote essays. He made his debut in 1943 with the publication of the poem "Mantua" in the magazine Palmos, and in 1953 he released the poetry collection "Poems." He collaborated with magazines such as Philological Chronicles, New Greek, Today's Letters, Epochs, The Continuation, Sections, Stations, and the newspaper Kathimerini, among others. A member of the National Society of Greek Writers, he was honored with the First State Theater Award for his play "Endurance," the Ouranis Award from the Academy of Athens for the essay collection "Tagliche Ernte," and the Frederick Matthews Literary Award (1995). His works have been translated into French, English, and Italian, and his poems have been included in foreign anthologies.
