Mary Midgley

Mary Midgley was born in London in 1919. She taught philosophy at Newcastle University from 1962 to 1980. Her work spans a wide range of interests, including science, ethics, and animal rights. Some of her works include: "Beast and Man: The Roots of Human Nature" (1978), "Heart and Mind" (1981), "Animals and Why They Matter: A Journey Around the Species Barrier" (1983), "Science as Salvation: A Modern Myth and Its Meaning" (1992), "Science and Poetry" (2001), and the autobiographical "The Owl of Minerva: A Memoir" (2005).
