Anton Chekhov

Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904): Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was a Russian author known for his numerous short stories, plays, and novels. He was born on January 17, 1860, in the town of Taganrog, in southern Russia. As the third of six children, he grew up in a very strict and religious environment. From the sixth grade, Chekhov had to support himself by giving private lessons. In 1879, he entered the medical department of Moscow University, graduating in 1884. During his high school years, Chekhov began writing humorous sketches, narratives, and one-act plays. Starting in 1880, his works began to be published in magazines such as "Alarm Clock," "Spectator," "Moscow," "Light and Shadow," "Fragments," and others, under the pseudonym Antosha Chekhonte. In 1884, he published his first book of short stories, "The Tales of Melpomene." Between 1884 and 1885, he wrote his medical thesis, which he did not complete due to his other commitments. As a doctor, he helped the needy and provided his medical services for free. Some of his most famous works include "The Seagull," "Uncle Vanya," "Three Sisters," "The Cherry Orchard," and "The Steppe," among others. He passed away in 1904.
