Alexis Kokkos

Alexis Kokkos was born in 1950 in Athens. He studied Law at the University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in the Sociology of Education at Paris VIII University. He played a leading role in the establishment of the Popular Education institution (1981-1987), the Institute for Continuous Education and Training / IDEKE (President 1995-1997), the Institute for Training (2004-2009), and the Hellenic Open University (member of the founding scientific team, 1997-2001), where he is currently a Professor of Adult Education and Director of Studies for the corresponding postgraduate program. He founded the Hellenic Adult Education Association (2004), where he serves as President. He was the Scientific Director of the national program for training trainers (2006-2008) and co-coordinator of the Major Teacher Training Program (2009-2011). He is the creator of the Transformative Learning through Aesthetic Experience method, which has been implemented in thousands of schools and adult education organizations in Greece, as well as in European countries. He has authored 9 books and 65 articles on adult education, transformative learning, and the use of art in education, published in journals such as the Journal of Transformative Education, Convergence, LifeLong Learning in Europe, Agora, International Journal of Education and Ageing, Andragogical Studies, International Journal of Vocational Education and Training, Adult Education, among others, and by publishers like Jossey-Bass, Sense, Nova Science Publishers, Metaichmio. Through these activities, Alexis Kokkos aimed to contribute to the creation of educational forms that promote critical reflection and empowerment. He has been awarded membership in the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame for his overall contribution to the field of Adult Education, as well as an honorary distinction from the International Transformative Learning Committee for his Exemplary Leadership and Contribution to the International Transformative Learning Community.
