Georgios Arampatzis

Lieutenant General (ret.) Georgios Arampatzis was born in Ofrynio, Kavala, in 1942. In 1966, he graduated from the Hellenic Military Academy as an infantry second lieutenant. In 1969, he was assigned to the Special Forces, where he served for twenty-one years, ten of which were in paratrooper units. He served as commander of the Special Paratrooper Unit (ETA), commander of the 505 Marine Battalion, and finally, commander of the 2nd Paratrooper Regiment. In March 1994, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier and appointed as deputy commander of the IX Infantry Division. He attended all training schools related to his branch and the Special Forces, as well as the Higher War School and the National Defense School, graduating with honors. He was awarded the Gold Cross of the Order of Honor, the Commander of the Order of Honor, the Medal of Staff Officer Services Second Class, and the Medals of Distinguished Command First and Second Class. In the annual evaluations of March 1996, he retired with the rank of major general, having "successfully completed his service." In 2004, following a report to the Hellenic Army General Staff, he was re-evaluated and promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
