Stephen Turnbull is recognized as one of the greatest military historians of the medieval period. He gained fame with his book "The Samurai: A Military History," published in 1977. He has also written books on European military topics. He consistently strives to focus on lesser-known areas of military history, such as Korea, Eastern Europe, the Baltic states, and the Teutonic Knights.
