Dr. Carlo C. DiClemente is a professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He is the co-founder, along with Dr. James Prochaska, of the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change. Over the past 20 years, he has authored numerous scientific articles and books, as well as chapters in collective volumes, focusing on the process of human behavior change and the application of the Transtheoretical Model to a range of behaviors. Dr. DiClemente has served as the director of an open therapeutic program for alcoholics based on the Transtheoretical Model and has been a consultant for the American Institute for Substance Abuse, the American Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Substance Abuse Treatment Center, and many public and private therapeutic programs. He is one of the authors of "Changing for Good," a self-help book based on the model of change, as well as several other books for professionals applying the model to individuals with addictive and healthy behaviors. He has presented the model in educational workshops in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, mainland Europe, Mexico, and New Zealand.
