Roberto Saviano

Roberto Saviano was born in 1979 in Naples. He studied philosophy at the University of Naples. He was a member of the research team at the Observatory on Camorra and Illegality and has collaborated with newspapers such as "Il Manifesto," "Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno," "L'Espresso," and "La Repubblica." In 2006, his book "Gomorrah" was published in Italy and has since been translated into more than 50 languages. Literature and reportage are his tools for narrating reality. Since October 13, 2006, due to the success of his book and threats to his life, he has lived under military protection. The film "Gomorrah," directed by Matteo Garrone and based on Saviano's book, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. In 2009, his book "The Opposite of Death" was published (Patakis Editions, 2009), followed by "Beauty and Hell" in 2010 (Patakis Editions, 2011), which was awarded the European Book Prize (Le prix du livre européen) the same year, and "The Fight Continues" in 2011 (Patakis Editions, 2013).
