Eyripidis Garantoudis

Euripides Garantoudis is a Professor of Modern Greek Philology in the Department of Philology at the University of Athens. He was born in 1964 in Kavala. He studied Modern Greek Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Thessaloniki. From 1986 to 1989, he taught Modern Greek language and literature at the Institute of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Padua. From 1995 to 2003, he taught Modern Greek Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Crete (appointed as an Assistant Professor in 1999). He also served as a researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology, focusing on writing the history of Modern Greek metrics. He has published the books: "Ancient and Modern Greek Metrics: A Historical Outline of a Misunderstanding," Padua 1989, "Polytrópos Harmony: The Metrics and Poetics of Kalvos," Heraklion, University of Crete Press - House of Fine Arts and Letters 1995, and "Anthology of Modern Greek Poetry 1980-1997: The Moments of Nostalgia," Athens, Nefeli Editions 1998. He edited the books: "Gerasimos Spatalas, The Art of Versification: Studies on Modern Greek Metrics," Heraklion, University of Crete Press 1997 (in collaboration with Anna Katsigianni) and "Takis Sinopoulos, Chronicle of Readings: Book Reviews on Post-War Poetry," Athens, Sokolis 1999 (in collaboration with Dora Menti). His book reviews and studies on Modern Greek Philology topics have been published in journals and newspapers.
