Michalis Kassotakis studied Philology at the University of Athens and Educational Sciences at the Sorbonne University, where he also received his Ph.D. He served as a Professor of Pedagogy at the University of Crete, Chairman of the Department of Philosophical and Social Studies, and the first elected Dean of the School of Philosophy at the same university. In 1990, he was elected Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology (F.P.P.) at the University of Athens, where he taught until his retirement. In 2013, he was named Professor Emeritus at the University of Athens. He also served as Vice President and President of the Pedagogical Institute, President of the Center for Educational Research, a member of the Education Committees of the Council of Europe and the OECD, President and member of various working groups of the Greek Ministry of Education, and collaborator with the National Institute for Educational Research in France. He played a key role in founding the Pedagogical Society of Greece and the Hellenic Society for Educational Evaluation, of which he was President until recently. He is a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and a member of numerous scientific societies. He has been repeatedly honored with various awards both in Greece and abroad for his scientific work, particularly in Educational Evaluation and Career Counseling. In recognition of his contributions, the F.P.P. Department of the University of Athens named its Laboratory of Career Guidance and Counseling after him. Michalis Kassotakis has published, either alone or with others, 30 books (including the editing of scientific volumes) and more than 150 articles in reputable scientific journals and chapters in collective works. These publications address topics such as Educational Evaluation, Career Counseling, teacher education and training, learning and teaching, as well as various aspects of the Greek educational system. He has also authored several books and numerous studies on linguistic, historical, and folklore subjects related to his birthplace, the Lasithi Plateau in Crete.
