Trudi Canavan

Trudi Canavan was born in the suburb of Kew, Melbourne, on October 23, 1969. She studied at a college in Melbourne and earned a degree in decoration, winning first prize for her thesis. Since she can remember, she has been "creating" stories about imaginary events and characters. Her first story, published in 1969, won the Aurealis Award for the best fantasy book. She works as an illustrator and designer and is also the art director at Aurealis, a magazine of science fiction and fantasy. She lives in a small house on the hillside near the forest in Ferntree Gully, a suburb of Melbourne.
