Joan Aiken

She was born in East Sussex in 1924. Her father, Conrad Aiken, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his poetry. She worked at the BBC and wrote numerous children's books and horror novels, as well as fantasy stories. In 1969, she was honored with the Guardian Award, and in 1972, with the Edgar Allan Poe Award. Among her most notable works are "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" (1963), "Black Hearts in Battersea" (1964), and "The Haunting of Lamb House" (1987). She passed away in 2004 in England.
