Violet Hunt

Isabel Violet Hunt was born in Durham in 1862. During her adolescence, she met notable figures such as John Ruskin, William Morris, and Oscar Wilde, who is said to have proposed to her. She had personal connections with H.G. Wells and Somerset Maugham and served as the inspiration for the character Nora Nesbit in the latter's work "Of Human Bondage." She authored several novels, including "The Cat" (1905), "The Doll" (1911), and "Their Hearts" (1921). She passed away in 1942.
