Maria Stathea

Maria Stathea, daughter of Paraskevas and Athina, was born in Kalamata, with paternal roots in Stavropigio, Messenian Mani. She is a professor of Greek philology, holding a degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Maria has taught in schools in Athens and the region of Messenia. She has participated in workshops, seminars, and conferences at the University of Kalamata, focusing on the value of the Greek language and Byzantine culture. Additionally, she has attended events organized by the Foundation of the Hellenic World, the Goethe Institute in Athens, and the Technological Educational Institute of Kalamata, covering topics related to historical memory and academic libraries. In 2001, she took part in a two-week educational trip with an environmental theme in Norden, Germany, and has been involved in summer environmental schools in Taygetos and the Soufli Environmental Education Center. Maria has coordinated programs on culture, environmental education, health education, the operation of school libraries, gender equality, art history, and the introduction to computer use. She participated in seminars for educators in Stockholm, Sweden, with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) in 2005. She has also contributed to conferences and presented papers on local media concerning environmental, cultural, literary, folklore, and educational topics. Maria is a member of the newly established local Friends of the University of the Peloponnese Association and the Association of Messenian Writers. During the years 2005-07 and 2008-09, she was seconded to the Department of Philology at the University of the Peloponnese. She is married and a mother of one child.
