Jan Fabre

Jan Fabre
Jan Fabre was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1958. As an artist, he claims the freedom to create using all possible means, much like the Renaissance artists. He has presented a rich body of work that includes theatrical texts and direction, choreography, painting, sculpture, installations, and video. In both his stage and visual work, he incorporates references to animals, while the macabre, blood, extreme physical conditions, the violence of movements, and his subversive style make his work multifaceted. He founded Troubleyn, a theater company with extensive international collaborations. Jan Fabre has been the soul and artistic director of Troubleyn since its inception in 1986. Troubleyn means "to remain faithful" and expresses the creator's desire to work over the long term with people who share common visions.
