Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) was born in Skelleftehamn, Skelleftea, Sweden. His real name was Karl Stig-Erland Larsson, but he signed his books as Stieg Larsson. He worked as a financial analyst, journalist, and editor-in-chief of the Swedish political magazine "Expo." His trilogy, titled "Millennium," became a global publishing phenomenon, first topping bestseller lists in Scandinavia and then soaring in other countries where it was published. The books sold over 27 million copies in more than 40 countries, and all three parts were adapted into films. "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" was awarded the Glasnyckeln in 2005, the most prestigious Scandinavian crime fiction award, as well as the ITV3 Crime Thriller Award, Waterstone's Book of the Year, Best Abridged Crime Audio Book, and was nominated for three Anthony Awards in the USA. The second book in the trilogy, "The Girl Who Played with Fire," was awarded the best Swedish crime novel in 2006, and the third book, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest," received the Glasnyckeln in 2008. Unfortunately, the author did not live to see his literary triumph, as he passed away from a heart attack on November 9, 2004, just days after submitting the manuscripts of the three volumes.
