Dimitrios Lypourlis

Emeritus Professor of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed his primary philological studies at the University of Thessaloniki under the guidance of distinguished teachers. He pursued further education in Italy and Germany. He served as a Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at the University of Thessaloniki from 1969 until 1996, when he voluntarily retired from active service to dedicate himself to his writing. He was the Dean of the School of Philosophy and a Senate member during the academic year 1977-1978, and the first Chair of the Department of Philology from 1984 to 1986. For five semesters, he also served as a visiting professor at the University of Cyprus. He participated in numerous conferences (particularly on Aristotelian and Hippocratic topics) and delivered a multitude of lectures both domestically and internationally. His research focused particularly on ancient Greek scientific discourse, with ancient Greek medical texts and the works of Aristotle providing fertile ground for his investigations. Main works - books (in addition to articles and publications in journals and newspapers): - "The Productive Suffix -ikos in Pre-Socratic Philosophy and the Hippocratic Corpus" (1968) - "Artemis Orthria" (1968) - "Hippocratic Medicine" (1972) - "Ancient Greek Metrics" (1975) - "Adjectives from Substantivized Adjectives" (1977) - "Five Philological Studies" (1986) - "Aristotelian Studies" (1986) - "En Parodo I - II" (1987-1995) - "Linguistic Observations I - II" (1990-1994) - "Hippocratic Collection I" (1991) - "Dimitris Lypourlis at Vafopouleio" (1998) - "Once Upon a Time: Three 'Stories' of Ancient Greek Everyday Life" (1998) - "Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics, Book II" (2000) - "Hippocrates, Volumes I-V" (2000-2001) - "Dictionary of Ancient Authors, Greek and Latin" (translated from German, 1996). Another area that particularly intrigued him was the teaching of Ancient Greek in Secondary Education. He participated in numerous specialized seminars, delivered lectures, and published related articles. He passed away on November 15, 2018.
