Sergi Pàmies

Sergi Pàmies was born in 1960 in an underprivileged suburb of Paris, where his parents had taken refuge as Spanish political refugees. As the child of committed leftists, he spent his childhood fearing the arrest of his family. In 1971, the family returned to Barcelona, and the eleven-year-old Sergi began learning Catalan "to talk to girls." Shortly thereafter, when he wrote his first poems, Catalan naturally became his sole language of literary expression. Pàmies made his literary debut in 1986 with a collection of short stories, and in 1990 he published his first novel. Since his debut, his work has been accompanied by awards and distinctions, but most importantly, by public recognition. His books, which often parody everyday situations, have been translated into many languages. In addition to being an author, Pàmies is a sports journalist for El País, comments on current events in radio broadcasts, writes humorous scripts for television, and translates French authors into Catalan and Spanish.
