Popi Mpalamoti - Spita

Popi Balamoti-Spita was born and raised in Trikala, Thessaly. She studied Greek Philology at the School of Philosophy of the University of Athens. For twenty-five years, she worked as a teacher in public secondary education. She has been involved in literature, particularly poetry, since her teenage years. Her literary work has been recognized with numerous awards in national competitions for poetry, short stories, and essays. In 2000, the Piraeus Association honored her poem "Law of Life" with the Second Prize in its National Competition. Many of her poems have been included in various anthologies and published in reputable literary magazines. With her understanding of children's minds as an educator and mother, she also engaged in Children's Literature, earning distinction in 2005 for her poetry collection "Torch of Light" from the Union of Greek Writers, in 2007 for her poetry collection "Blooming Lilies" from the Women's Literary Society, and in 2013 she received the First Prize for her poetry collection "Good Morning Sun" from the Women's Literary Society as well. She served as Secretary on the Board of the Panhellenic Society of Literature and Art (PELTA) and as General Secretary of the Panhellenic Union of Writers (PEL). She is a regular member of the National Society of Greek Writers (E.E.E.L.), the Society of Greek Writers (E.E.L.), the Women's Literary Society (GLS), the Association of Historical Writers of Greece (SISE), the Association of Visual Artists of Greece (SEKEL) "Apellis," the International Foundation for the Greek Language and Culture (DIEGP), and the Hellenic Association of the United Nations (ESHE). She is also actively involved in the visual arts, painting, and iconography. She has two sons, Mechanical Engineers and University Professors, and two grandchildren who, with their childlike charm, replenish her maternal channels of affection and hope.
