
Stelios Lydakis
Stelios Lydakis studied Art History and Archaeology at the University of Cologne, where he earned his doctorate with the dissertation: "Die griechische Landschaft in der europäischen Malerei" (The Greek Landscape in European Painting). He was awarded a two-year scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Main works include: "Geschichte der griechischen Malerei des 19. Jhts." (History of Greek Painting of the 19th Century), Munich 1972; "The Iconography of the Monument of Lysicrates," Archaeological Bulletin 21 (1966), 163-183; "History of Modern Greek Painting," Athens 1977; "Dictionary of Greek Painters and Engravers," Athens 1976; "Modern Greek Sculpture, History, Typology, Dictionary of Sculptors," Athens 1981; "The Sculptures of the First Cemetery of Athens," Athens 1981; "The Greek Naïve Painters," Athens 1987; "Konstantinos Volanakis," Athens 1997; "Andreas Georgiadis," Athens 1999. He has authored numerous articles in newspapers and magazines, as well as many monographs on artists.
Since 1993, he has been a professor of European art at the University of Athens.
