THomas Tsalapatis
Thomas Tsalapatis was born in 1984 in Athens. He studied at the Department of Theatre Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Athens. He is a poet, playwright, and literary critic (for the newspapers "Epoch" and "Efimerida ton Syntakton"). In 2007, he wrote and co-directed the play "All the Clocks in the City or the Old Man and the Photocopy." From 2009 to 2013, he was involved in Stand-Up Comedy, staging performances such as "Marquis de Sade for Children" and "Masturbation and Intolerance: A Love Story and Stand-Up," in concert venues, theaters, bars, festivals, squats, etc. His first poetry book, "Dawn is a Slaughter, Mr. Krak" (Ekati, 2011), was awarded the State Prize for Debut Author (jointly with the collection "Ippokratous 15" by Thomas Ioannou). This was followed by the collection "Alba" (Ekati, 2015), which was published in France in 2017, translated by Nicole Chaperon (bilingual edition, Editions Desmos - Le Lien), adapted for the stage, and performed at the M. Kakogiannis Foundation. In 2017, he published the theatrical texts "Drowning/Encore" (published by Mov Skouros), commissioned by Th. Terzopoulos for the Attis Theatre. Ekati Publications also released a book of poems by W.B. Yeats, which he translated from English together with Michalis Papantonopoulos. In May 2018, he won first prize in the poetry category of the Premio InediTO - Colline di Torino for the unpublished poetry section "Circumstances" (Circostanze), translated into Italian by Viviana Sebastio.
