Otto Carius
Otto Carius was born in 1922 in Zweibrücken, southwestern Germany. He enlisted in the army in May 1940. After completing his basic training, he volunteered for the armored units. In 1943, he was transferred to the 50th Heavy Tank Battalion, which participated in the battles of Leningrad and Narva. He remained on the Eastern Front until the end of 1944. He took part in the defense of the Rhine and was eventually captured as a prisoner of war in April 1945. During his military service, he destroyed more than 150 tanks.
