
David Nicholls
David Nicholls was born in 1966 in Hampshire, England. He studied acting before dedicating himself to writing. His repertoire also includes scripts for television series and films, including adaptations of classic novels for the BBC such as "Tess of the D'Urbervilles," "Far from the Madding Crowd," and "Great Expectations." He has also been nominated for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.
His first novel, "Starter for Ten" (2004), achieved great commercial success and was voted one of the best novels of the year by the Richard & Judy Book Club television show. He also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of the book. The author's second novel, "The Understudy," was published in 2005. His third novel, "One Day," received exceptional critical acclaim and remained on the Sunday Times bestseller list for over a year. It has sold over five million copies worldwide and has been translated into forty languages. He also wrote the screenplay for its film adaptation, starring Jim Sturgess and Anne Hathaway, which was released in theaters in 2011.
His fourth novel, "Us" (Minos 2015), climbed to the top of the Sunday Times bestseller list in its first week of release. It was nominated for the 2014 Man Booker Prize and featured in Publishers Lunch's list of the best novels of the year. The BBC is preparing a television series based on the novel, with a screenplay by playwright Nick Payne.
