Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) was born in Petrovichi, a village near Rostov. In 1923, the Judah Asimov family permanently left Russia and settled in the United States, where young Isaac, along with his sister Marcia, grew up and received his early education. The family faced extremely difficult times, but young Asimov managed to study at Columbia University, where he earned his degree in chemistry in 1948. That same year, he was appointed as a full professor at the Boston University School of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry. As one of the most renowned science fiction authors, Asimov wrote over a hundred books and countless short stories (as well as popular science books and other essays). Highly knowledgeable and prophetic, with a completely unique style, he revealed in his writings his deep knowledge of history, literature, geography, and the peculiarities of religions, all embellished with a natural and light-hearted humor. His books were honored with the Nebula and Hugo awards, the highest distinctions in their genre. He passed away in New York on April 6, 1992, at the age of 72.
