Nikos S. Margaris

Nikos S. Margaritis (1943-2013) was born in Volos. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Athens. He served as a professor in the Department of Natural Ecosystem Management at the University of the Aegean's Department of Environment, where he also held the position of department chair for several years. His research and publications on environmental issues, particularly Mediterranean ecosystems, are well-known in both the Greek and international scientific communities. He was a regular contributor to Greek daily and periodical press. Additionally, he served as the general director of the Greek edition of "National Geographic" for 14 years. Among his accolades was the United Nations Global 500 Award. He passed away on August 26, 2013, after battling cancer.
