
Anna Afentoulidou
Anna Afentoulidou was born in Thessaloniki, where she studied Medieval and Modern Greek Philology. At the postgraduate level, she focused on the poetry of A. Empirikos and contemporary Cypriot literature. She worked as a philologist in Secondary Education and was later seconded to the Humanities and Philology Unit of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP), where she currently works. Her poetry collection "Missing Point" (Pandora, 2010) was shortlisted for the debut author award by the magazine "Diavazo." She contributed to the short story anthology "Thessaloniki 2012" (Ianos) as well as the anthology "The Red Thread, Contemporary Tales from Athens to Essex" (AutoPrint, Essex 2013). Her second poetry book titled "Stories of Virtual Balance" (published by Gavrielides) was shortlisted for the State Poetry Award in 2014. In 2014, her study "Albert Camus, 'The Stranger': A Dive into the World of Autism" (published by poema, 2014) and the critical essay "For that Ambivalent Silence of the Epitaph Road—Thoughts on the Poetry of Kostas Th. Rizakis" (published by frear/4, 2014) were also published. In 2016, she published the study "Iconographies of Resonances: The Significance of Remembrance in the Poetry of Giorgos Ch. Theocharis" (published by Gavrielides, 2016). Her latest book is the study "The Painful Memory of Flesh: Erotically Tracing the Poetry of Kostas Th. Rizakis" (Phoenix Editions, 2017). In 2018, she was appointed a member of the State Literary Awards Committee.
