Arthur A. Thompson

Arthur A. Thompson, Jr. received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Tennessee. He spent three years on the faculty of the Department of Economics at Virginia Tech and then served for 24 consecutive years as a faculty member at the College of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama. In 1974 and 1982, he took academic leaves for one semester each to participate as a visiting scholar in the Harvard Business School program. His areas of expertise include business strategy, competitive and market analysis, and business economics. In addition to publishing over 30 articles in approximately 25 different professional and trade publications, he has authored or co-authored five textbooks and six computer-based simulation exercises, which are used in more than 1,000 colleges and universities worldwide. Dr. Thompson spends much of his time outside the university giving lectures, creating management development programs, consulting with businesses, and helping run a business simulation company where he is a principal partner.
