THodoris Kallifatidis

Theodor Kallifatides was born in Molai, Laconia, in 1938. The son of a teacher from Pontus, he moved to Athens in 1946 and graduated from the Fifth Boys' High School. He studied at the Karolos Koun School and, after completing his military service, settled in Sweden. He studied philosophy at Stockholm University and later taught at the same institution. For four years, he directed the literary magazine "Bonniers Litterära Magasin." Since 1976, he has made a living exclusively from writing. He has published novels, poetry collections, travel essays, and plays; he has also written film scripts and directed a movie. He has been honored with significant international awards for his work, and nearly all of his books are available in twenty languages.
